A warm Welcome and Thank You for stopping by Saint Monica Children’s Home For Girls. We are thankful that you have taken the time to see what Saint Monica’s is all about and the work we do every day.
Saint Monica Children’s Home is a home for orphaned girls regardless of their creed or race. It is a home, started by Rev. Fr. Augustine Kariuki, in 2003. Saint Monica’s is mainly for girls who were vulnerable and living in poverty from the ages 5 to 17. The girls admitted in the Home are without parents or guardians, dehumanized, humiliated, oppressed, marginalized
, powerless and defiled.
They had been deprived of minimum food, education, love and shelter necessary to maintain life by the extended family or they are too poor to support them. These girls we call orphans of orphans and poor of the poorest. Girls are vulnerable to more problems after their parents have departed than boys.
OUR HISTORY
In 2002 the community around St. Monica Children’s Home reflected on St. James chapter 1:27 which says “The religion that is pure and undefiled before God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction”. They believed that God was leading them to start St. Monica Children’s Home in the midst of slums. Therefore, after establishing the Home in 2003, her Excellency, the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya Lucy Kibaki, visited the Home and conducted its official opening on 26th June 2004. She highlighted by all means the existence of St. Monica Children’s Home and well wishers to support the Home.
OUR VISION
To see children who have a love for knowledge and learning, growing in Godliness and equipped to serve their society. To offer the opportunity to acquire education to the highest level each girl attains according to her ability. Also the girls are accorded the opportunity to acquire skills through the skill training programs that are offered at the center that is – catering and dressmaking.
OUR MISSION
To get each girl into a private school. To teach, train and transform through educational expertise and Christ like example molding and inspiring children to a life of excellence and impact. To identify the gift or talent of each child, and then develop it. To understand our mission with God given enthusiasm and inspired by the hope we see in every child.
Today we have 31 girls residing at Saint Monica Children’s Home, but the number could rise to 80 or more if facilities were available. That is our hope, our dream, to take in as many girls as we can help and support.
We hope you can help us.
